Kevin Houlihan on Why FDA Selects Workflow Services as Partner in Diagnostic Data Program

In this video, CEO Kevin Houlihan discusses Workflow Services’ partnership with the FDA as part of its Diagnostic Data Program.

The FDA created the program to address and eliminate critical barriers to capturing the full potential of diagnostic data. The FDA selected Workflow Services to collect and transmit vital point-of-care testing data, helping to inform public health officials and accelerate care delivery in pharmacy settings.

Introduction

The FDA's Digital Diagnostics Program is a clear indicator that point-of-care testing in non-traditional settings is here to stay and will only continue to grow.

Participation in this program recognizes that awareness of this kind of testing access is only growing and is a key component to how healthcare should be delivered in the U.S. in the future and today.

Point-of-Care Testing Evolution

The retail pharmacy setting is rapidly evolving. It's moving in ways it never really has at this pace. We're recognizing that pharmacists are a key player in local health and accessibility to care.

Over 90% of the U.S. population lives within 5 miles of a pharmacy. Accessing care in a retail pharmacy setting is often easier, cheaper, faster, and closer than in any other setting. In some cases, the hardest-to-reach populations are seeing their pharmacist once a month or even more versus maybe only once a year for a primary care provider, if they even have a primary care provider.

Why the FDA Selected Workflow Services

One of the reasons that the FDA selected Workflow Services as its partner in this project is our long history of dealing with healthcare information in a secure and high-quality way.

We've been working with the country's largest healthcare organizations for a decade. We focus on how data moves back and forth and how to make it most valuable and available to different stakeholders at different points of care. We were one of the largest data reporters to the CDC during the height of the pandemic.

Program Outcomes

And we have a full spectrum front-to-back solution to help support point-of-care service delivery in retail pharmacies, which includes point-of-care testing. And across the spectrum, everyone wins here. Patients win, the pharmacy wins, and insurance companies win. Everyone wins with a more efficient way to access this kind of low-acuity care in the community setting.
